Hot (1979)
Hot (1979), has a couple of stand-out moments. Rocky II Disco never captured the success of Gonna Fly Now, but it features some outstanding trumpet work from Maynard, as well as Sylvester Stallone providing percussion on the speed bag. Gabriel is a great jazz funk march, in the style of Gospel John, and Om Sai Ram was one of Maynard's first sweeping fusion of traditional Indian music and American jazz.

Resonance - Joey Pero
Resonance is the debut album by former Big Bop Nouveau trumpeter Joey Pero, and it's the most creative trumpet CD I've heard in quite some time. Although traditional in parts, what is most striking about the music of Resonance is that is has one foot firmly planted in the music of today. The influences are varied, making it difficult to pin down a specific genre. While primarily a jazz album, I could hear colors of hip hop, rock, pop, classical, and even a little flavor of drum corps (particularly in "Blue Rondo"). The arrangements are inventive and the production is lush and rich. Joey's playing is both technically impressive as well as artistic and expressive. This is my favorite trumpet CD of the last year. I can't get enough of it.

Lasse Lindgren MF Tribute CD

Maynard fans are frequently fans of the jazz/rock band Chase, formed and captained by former Maynard Ferguson lead player, Bill Chase. You can clearly hear Maynard's influence in Bill's soaring and energetic trumpet work. Chase was a rock band with four trumpets, and was known for playing arrangements with a signature "cascading trumpets" sound. Chase had a radio hit with Get It On (still played by pep bands across the country) and recorded three albums before Bill Chase was killed in a plane crash in 1974. St. Louis trumpeter Jim Manley has been putting out great swinging jazz for years now. He has high chops for days, but don't let that fool you. He's got jazz chops, too. Let The Trumpet Sound - Ken Robinson
Ken Robinson was a trumpet player in one of the final incarnations of Big Bop Nouveau. Ken has just released a beautiful new classical CD titled "Let The Trumpet Sound" featuring himself on trumpet and Dave Wagner on organ. The entire CD is impressive, but what really makes this CD special is the last track, titled "Farewell Maynard". This is a touching tribute to Maynard, based on the melody "Caruso", arranged for eight trumpets, two trombones, and organ. Ken didn't stop there. He recruited some trumpet heavyweights to play on this track. The eight trumpets in this recording are: Ken Robinson, Walter White, Adolph "Bud" Herseth, Charles Schlueter, Patrick Hession, Arturo Sandoval, Brian Moon, and John Davidson. To me, this track perfectly captures both the romanticism and wild abandon of Maynard's approach to music.

Maynard Ferguson Tribute DVD
This Double DVD Tribute Package includes the Maynard Ferguson Tribute Concert held September 20, 2006 at the University of Missouri Touhill Performing Arts Center in St. Louis and over 60 minutes of Historical Bonus Footage.

The featured concert from St. Louis brought together more than 30 alumni artists from Maynard's sixty plus years of entertaining audiences around the world. In a manner of words, the tribute was the ultimate symphony dedicated to a man so many called “The Boss”. The DVD of the concert has a running time of over 120 minutes and also includes many great photos of Maynard throughout the years.

The second DVD includes more than an hour of bonus footage excerpts, many of which have never before been seen, from performances all over the world. Recorded between 1950-2006, these excerpts demonstrate Maynard's trumpet artistry and trademark exuberance as a world renowned bandleader.

A portion of the net proceeds from the DVD sales will go to the Maynard Ferguson Music Scholarship Fund at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
